My Red Tunnel

Captured along Birch Tree Hill Road, at the Capt. Joe and Osbert Road junction in West Bay, these two hugging Poincianas always make my day. I call it "My Red Tunnel" since the fiery red sight stands out and even the blooms that had fallen down cover that part of the road which feels like a fairytale. I feel I am back home (Philippines), and most of the time, I slow down to bask in the reverence of what God has created.

Poinciana Reverie

Inspired by the “In the Round” series by impressionistic photographer Pep Ventosa, this piece explores the Poinciana tree from multiple perspectives, layering individual photographs to create a single, abstract impression. To create the image, I searched for a tree that I could walk completely around and found a beautiful one in full bloom in South Sound. I took approximately 40–50 photographs from each position as I moved around the entire circumference of the tree. I then layered and blended the images together, adjusting their opacity and carefully aligning them to create a dreamy, impressionistic interpretation of the tree as a whole. I was especially drawn to the fallen petals scattered beneath the tree. Their vibrant colour and delicate presence became an important part of the composition, grounding the ethereal canopy above.
